FROM DAWN TO DAWN
We inform our audience that our dear Chief Conductor Gabriel Feltz will not be able to hold the concert on December 20 due to his health. For that reason, there has been a change of program; the audience will be pleased to learn that they will have the chance to hear the violinist Robert Lakatoš, whose performance was originally planned for December 6. Valentin Uryupin will conduct the concert, and the program will feature works by MacMillan, Wienawski and Tchaikovsky.
James MacMillan’s solemn Larghetto opens a program dedicated to showcasing the virtuosity of the string orchestra in all its forms.
Our featured virtuoso is the fantastic violinist Robert Lakatoš from Novi Sad, who will play the rarely performed Violin Concerto No. 1 by Wieniawski, one of the more challenging pieces in standard violin repertoire.
Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Orchestral Suite No. 3 is not written for a virtuoso soloist but for a virtuoso orchestra. A triumph from its premiere, this piece continues to captivate audiences more than 120 years later. This evening, it will be performed under the baton of Valentin Uryupin.
